Laboratory fume hoods minimize chemical exposure to laboratory workers. They are considered the primary means of protection from inhalation of hazardous vapors, mists and particulate matter. It is therefore, important that all pntentiallty harmful chemical work be conducted inside a properly functioning fume hood. The speed of the air moving through the hood opening is known as face velocity. This laboratory worker guide is intended to help identify fume hood types and outline exposire control practices in relation to the fume hood.
Technical Data
Solvent & Acid Cabinet | Solvent cabinet is insulated and supplied with a 3 point lockable latch. Acid cabinet supplied with a one piece molded polyethylene liner with rigid adjustable shelf for maximum durability and long life. Vent kits available for connection to fume hood interior or other ventilation system. |
Adjustable Design | Standard base cabinet doors and drawers are interchangeable in field without the use of special tools. This provides unique future adaptability for changing laboratory needs. |
Handles and Hinges | A wide selection of handles and hinges are available to meet specific aesthetic and functional requirements. |
Worktops | Epoxy Resin is the modern laboratory benchtop material that offers a superb |
combination of features and benefits. It is durable, extremely chemical and stain resistant, mechanically strong, easily cleaned and decontaminated and exhibits good fire resistance and fire propagation properties. As cast by Simmons it is a solid material that cannot delaminate and has the same properties throughout its entire thickness. It is moulded into a wide range of components of different sizes to cater for the most exacting of laboratory specifications, and is available in a range of subtle and aesthetically pleasing colours |
Constant air volume principle
The bypass fume hood is an improved variation on the conventional fume hood.
The bypass is located above the sash facce opening and protected by a grille which helps to direct air flow.
The bypass is intended to address the varying face velocities that create air turbulence leading to air spillage.
The bypass limits the increase in face velocity as the sash nears the fully closed position, maintaining a relatively constant volume of exhaust air regardless of sash position.
